The Tarome Rural Fire Brigade will fund a project to sink and equip a bore beside their fire shed following an $18,000 grant win from the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Program.

The Brigade’s bid was supported by the Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz, who visited the fire shed to make the announcement.

Several brigade members had planned to attend the meeting with Mr Buchholz, however, they were called out to assist the Department of Transport and Main Roads by extinguishing a fire in timber standing above the Cunningham Highway at the top of the Gap. However, Brigade member, Melissa Voss, was there to meet Mr Buchholz and State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause. 

“We’re all acutely aware of the importance of the rural fire service, the volunteers and the critical nature they play in our communities,” Mr Buchholz said.

“This has been highlighted for locals during the recent and ongoing bushfires. The Tarome brigade, like many other local brigades, were at the front of that firefighting effort.

“By providing additional resources and helping the Tarome brigade with their electric bore project, we hope to build resilience and better protect this community.

“It is vital that the local crews have access to a water source in order to operate efficiently.”

The Stronger Communities programme has committed funding to more than 7,700 community–based projects across Australia.

“I want to thank once again the RFS for their hard work, dedication and unwavering support to our local communities during these fire events. We’re forever in your debt,” Mr Buchholz said.

The Stronger Communities Program provides grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 to community organisations and local governments for small capital projects that deliver social benefits for local communities.
