Police hunt car after ‘suspicious’ Carney’s Creek fire
1 min read

Police are investigating the cause of the bushfire at Carney’s Creek.

“The circumstances surrounding how the fire started are considered as suspicious,” said Sgt Peter Boyce from Boonah Police.

“It began near a gateway outside a property on Hardcastle Road between 1.00pm and 2.15pm on Monday.

“We’d like to speak with anyone who may have seen a small blue hatchback leaving the area on Fletcher Road towards Burnett Creek Road around this time. The hatchback was similar to the old 1990s style Ford Laser.”

The fire ignited a bushfire which burned through several thousand hectares of National Park land and private property.

“Thanks to the tireless work of the Rural Fire Service no homes or structures were lost,” Sgt Boyce said.

• Carney’s Creek Road is open on both sides of the Border and the fire on the NSW side is also now under control.
