SEQ fire ban amid ‘perfect’ bushfire conditions

Authorities have slapped a local fire ban over much of south-east Queensland as they warn conditions “are perfect” for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services imposed the ban on residents of the Scenic Rim and Ipswich, as well as Logan, Lockyer Valley and Somerset local government areas.

The ban comes into effect at midnight on Tuesday and is expected to last through to Sunday.

All open fires will be prohibited and all existing permits to light fires cancelled.

While power tools may still be used, QFES is urging people to exercise extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.

This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.
