The race for the seat of Ipswich in the upcoming state election has hit full speed with the latest announcement of LNP candidate, Scott O’Connell, on Thursday afternoon.
Labor, the LNP, One Nation and the Greens have now all put forward candidates for the October 31 election.
Labor incumbent, Jennifer Howard, won the seat in 2017 for the second time with 47 percent of the primary vote.
After preferences, Howard commanded almost 61 percent of the two-candidate preferred vote, followed by One Nation’s Malcolm Roberts with 39 percent.
Local business owner Suzie Holmes will run for seat of Ipswich for One Nation after running for the LNP seat in 2009.
Greens candidate for Ipswich Pat Walsh is an Ipswich local with nearly 30 years of experience working for both commercial and NGO organisations.
O’Connell is a media advisor to Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz and announced his position less than three days away from the closing of nominations.
The last time LNP held the Ipswich seat was with MP Ian Berry in 2012 who lost the seat to Jennifer Howard in 2015.
