Ipswich City Council confirmed Deputy Mayor Marnie Doyle will be resigning from her role.
Cr Doyle was elected as Deputy Mayor in March this year where she secured eight of nine votes to secure the spot.
“I am pleased my fellow councillors supported me and look forward to fulfilling the role to the best of my ability,” she said at the time of her appointment.
Cr Doyle confirmed that she had advised the Mayor, Councillors and CEO on Wednesday 16 September of her resignation from the position of Deputy Mayor, effective 5pm Wednesday 23 September.
“I have decided to step down from the position of Deputy Mayor and give one of the other councillors the opportunity to undertake the role,” she said.
“The position of Deputy Mayor was always intended to be rotated, initially anticipated to occur on a 12-monthly basis.
“However, I have decided now is the perfect time for someone else to step into the role.”
She will remain chairperson for the Ipswich Central Redevelopment Committee and says she plans to be always accessible to residents and community groups, in particular Division 3.
