100 Campfires campsite and ‘tiny house’ planned for rural Cainbable

PLANS to extend an existing AirBnB and small campground operation at Cainbable are currently under consideration by the Scenic Rim Regional Council.

Ron and Teena Sapwell have applied for a development permit to establish a second tourist cabin, formalise the campground and build a second private home on the 20ha Cainbable Creek Road property known as Yalbaroo.

Currently, there’s an AirBnB cabin and manager’s residence on the property, and the applicants have applied to further set up the campground known as 100 Campfires.

According to their application, the campground will have only four campsites.

“[It was named] ‘100 Campfires’ not due to size but in honour of a 100 night camping journey around Queensland and New South Wales to explore other camp grounds and gather feedback on what campers looked for.

“Land allocated to the campground is currently just open space. It has been fenced off to stop the cattle intruding into the camping areas.”

The existing AirBnB cabin was approved by Council in 2018 as a teenagers retreat.

The additional cabin, if approved, will be in the form of a ‘tiny house’ on a relocatable frame. It will also have a removable deck.

The existing private residence on the property is used by the property managers, the owners’ son and daughter-in-law.

And the Sapwells have applied to build a second home on the property to live in.

According to the application, the front of the property which is used by the residents and cabin guests is flat and well maintained. Driveways are well maintained and clearly visible.

“The four camping sites are on a hill, on the other side of the creek and accessible by a dirt road that is marked and maintained for safe access.

“A walking track leads to the creek area and picnic spot.

“The camping spot was already cleared land and provides excellent views to the local valleys and hills and down to the creek area.

“The campers cannot see either neighbours’ homes only a neighbour’s shed which will be blocked eventually by a natural screening system.”
