The Scenic Rim Regional Council was given $275,000 in bushfire assistance which increases the total funding to $1.275 million.
The region was one of 60 to receive the $17 million in funding from the federal government to help regions bounce back from the the Black Summer bushfires under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
National Bushfire Recovery Coordinator, Andrew Colvin, said Disaster Minister David Littleproud had listened to the advice of the agency to allocate the extra funds.
“In determining allocations to LGAs my agency took into account a range of information including population, the volume of disaster recovery payments already received, the proportion of land area burnt and social economic factors of the LGA,” Mr Colvin said.
The federal government expects councils to use the funding on re-fencing, rebuilding local roads, bridges, and community facilities and hosting events for the community.
Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz welcomed the announcement and said the region will receive a further $275,000.
“I’ve been listening to locals and there is a long road ahead,” Mr Buchholz said.
“I’ve been fighting to secure additional funding to help finance the rebuild and get work underway sooner. We want to help get tourists back, roads open and money flowing through local businesses and the economy.”
“This funding empowers the region to take a lead in the bushfire recovery and can be used for a variety of bushfire recovery related purposes. Be it fixing roads, bridges, community assets or undertaking resilience measures to support communities hit hard.
“Locals know what locals need. I encourage all in the community impacted by bushfire to get in touch with Council. Tell them what their local communities needs are at this point in the recovery process.”
