Boonah State High School confirmed a parent has contracted coronavirus.

An announcement was sent to parents on Monday, warning them of the new case, while assuring them no teacher or student had been confirmed with COVID-19.

Principal Cheryl Bullion, said in the letter the school was following the strict advice of Queensland Health and will monitor all students and staff throughout the event.

“I wanted to make this information available to you so that you can be alert to the active management of this case and so that you were aware of the facts,” she wrote.

“I am advised there is no need for other students or staff to be isolated at this time.”

A spokesperson from the Department of Education said the parent advised the school when they tested positive for COVID-19. 

"Parents and caregivers of students at the school have been informed of the presence of COVID-19 in the community by a letter sent home today," the spokesperson said. 

"This letter contained advice for parents that there is no need for other students or staff to be quarantined at this time given they have not had close contact with the confirmed cases.

"School cleaning staff are paying extra special attention to health and hygiene and continuing to follow the expert advice from Chief Health Officers.

"All students and community members have been reminded of the need for heightened attention to hygiene standards. "
