A man has died after falling off a cliff while hiking on Mount Barney.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was with a group of friends when he fell to his death.

Queensland Ambulance Service and a rescue helicopter was called to the scene about 11am.

It is understood the hiker could not be assisted and was not taken to hospital.
