‘It’s not science fiction anymore’: is the age of the flying car finally about to take off?

A “flying motor car” invented in the United States could solve the problem of “road chaos” and prove “delightful alike to pedestrians and drivers”.

No, this is not breaking news, but a story carried in The Queenslander on Thursday November 28, 1935.

That weekly magazine was discontinued some four years later.

But the prospect of the flying car has proved irrepressible.

And according to the University of NSW’s Sonya Brown, that dream is finally set to be realised.

Dr Brown predicts that the first wave of cars will take off within about five years.
