Ipswich, Scenic Rim land disaster resilience grant
1 min read

Ipswich and the Scenic Rim will be given a total of $91,160 to prepare for future disasters.

The Queensland government’s $2 million disaster resilience fund, announced on Wednesday, will be shared across the state’s 77 councils according to their populations.

This means Ipswich City Council will land the lion’s share of the money heading south-west of Brisbane, being allocated $70,800. Scenic Rim Regional Council will be allocated $20,360.

Ipswich’s money will go towards developing a “community risk assessment” as well as a community preparation and resilience roadshow.

A spokesperson for the Treasurer Cameron Dick said the roadshow would “educate locals on disaster risks in the area and how they can best prepare”.

The Scenic Rim will use its money to fund “a range of community preparedness initiatives such as education materials including videos, a household letterbox drop and enhancements to the Scenic Rim Disaster Dashboard”.
