The first officer of the Mt French Rural Fire Brigade says he has been told to terminate the membership of all of his front line volunteers, leaving the veteran firie to defend his community alone.
“It’s just me now mate,” Bruce Wagner said.
The Mt French district fire warden of more than 30 years received the recommendation in a letter last week signed by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services deputy commissioner Mike Wassing.
Mr Wassing’s letter contained a list of nine volunteers who could no longer volunteer to fight bushfires alongside Mr Wagner because they did not hold a Working With Children Card, otherwise known as a Blue Card.
Those volunteers also received a letter from the QFES headquarters in Kedro
