Division Nine Councillor Glenn Tozer has revealed the Gold Coast City Council have considered the closure of Mudgeeraba Waste and Recycling Centre to expand the neighbouring cemetery.
Cr Tozer, who was elected as councillor in 2012, said the expansion of the cemetery was first recommended in 2014.
“The final decision [to remove the waste centre] has not yet been made,” he said.
“In 2014, it was recommended by officers to close Mudgeeraba and expand the cemetery partly based on previous negotiations before 2012 and I’ve tried to hold it off since then, based on my observations of community sentiment.
