Currumbin wildlife hospital, business as usual
1 min read

The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary may be closed to the public due to the recent South East Queensland restrictions, but for the wildlife hospital on site, it’s business as usual.

The Wildlife Hospital has put Covid-19 procedures in place so staff can continue their work.

In 2020, the hospital recorded its busiest year with almost 14,000 wildlife admissions.

Senior Veterinarian Dr Michael Pyne said caring for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife couldn’t be put on hold.

"Our wildlife admissions continue to rise throughout the lockdown,” said Dr Pyne

“It is our priority to ensure we remain open to provide the best care to our wildlife in urgent need, while balancing the wellbeing of the hospital team by remaining Covid-19 safe."

Dr Pyne said the Hospital had felt the financial burden of the recent lockdown as it was the ‘charity of choice’ at The Valley Estate’s Gala dinner which was to be held on Friday August 6.

All proceeds from the event were going towards the treatment, rehabilitation, and release of native wildlife.

“Being chosen as 'charity of choice' for events is paramount in raising vital funds to continue the important work that we do,” he said.

“We heavily rely on generous donations from the public to continue looking after the ever-growing number of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife that come through our doors.”

The Valley Estate plans to reschedule the gala dinner.
