$800k drug bust at Rathdowney border stop

A traffic stop in Rathdowney has led to a $800,000 cannabis bust.

About 8am Tuesday, police patrolling the border on the Mount Lindesay Highway pulled over a Toyota Hilux entering Queensland.

The ute was searched and police found 4.47 kilograms of cannabis in two pillowcases on the back seat.

The 21-year-old driver, from Arundel, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking and drug possession. 

The man was also fined $1,334 for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s direction.

A 16-year-old boy was also charged with drug trafficking and drug possession and will be dealt with in Beenleigh Children’s Court on May 11.

Following the seizure and arrest, police searched nearby Lindsay Creek in New South Wales.

Police seized five kilograms of cannabis, a hydroponics set up containing 170 cannabis plants and more than $10,000 in cash. 

Queensland Police also searched a Coomera house on Wednesday but found nothing.
