The intersection of Lake Moogerah Road and the Cunningham Highway is set for an upgrade this year.
State Member for Scenic Rim, Jon Krause, announced the improvement works saying the pavement rehabilitation work was expected to start before June.
“This is a good start, but more needs to be done on the Cunningham Highway to improve safety for all road users,” Mr Krause said.
The news of the work at Lake Moogerah Road came after Mr Krause made representations on behalf of residents to the Transport and Main Roads (TMR) District Director.
“Residents have contacted me with concerns about the dangerous condition of the Cunningham Highway south of Aratula from the BP Petrol Station to the first overtaking lane heading towards Cunninghams Gap.”
Mr Krause was advised that TMR was preparing a business case to secure funding for surface improvement works at this location south of Aratula, with no completion date in sight.
Another highway project is expected to be completed in the 2020-2021 financial year.
“The work will be undertaken about two-kilometres below the helipad and will rehabilitate the pavement over a one-kilometre stretch,” Mr Krause said.
