The kilometres of temporary barriers which are now a feature on the Cunningham Highway near the top of the Gap are likely to remain in place for some time yet.
A spokesman for the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads said that options were currently being investigated on the best way to stabilise the mountain slope above the highway.
“Since January 2020, specialist consultants have produced detailed mapping of the fire affected areas and geotechnical assessments of the slopes have been completed,” he said.
“This information is currently being used to develop options for rectifying damage and improving resilience of the roadway.
“The recommendations will also form part of an application for Federal funding.”
