Scenic Rim crying out for a Crier

The role of the Town Crier will be officially broadened to encompass the whole of the Scenic Rim.

And a decision to advertise for applicants for the honorary ‘big voiced role’ was made at the Council meeting on Monday.

In a report from the General Manager for Customer and Regional Prosperity, Debra Howe, it was suggested to Councillors that … “while the origins of this role occurred within Boonah, Council is seeking a whole of region perspective into the future.

“An Expression of Interest could be circulated to gauge the level of interest in the community and to ensure an open and transparent process in conducting and appointing a Scenic Rim Town Crier.”

For the appointment to be official, the appointment of the Town Crier must be endorsed by Council.

• John Deeks held the role of Boonah and then Scenic Rim Town Crier for more than 20 years up to his retirement in 2019. Council plans to acknowledge his contribution through a thank you letter.
