Beaudesert’s showstopping event simply spectacular

THE hardworking folk within Beaudesert’s show society would have breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday knowing they pulled off a magnificent event.
Show society president Ian Harrison said two reasons for the success were patrons and the volunteers who have worked for months behind the scenes and over the two show days.
“We had thousands attend and I’m putting it down to the fact we haven’t had decent show days since about 2018,” Mr Harrison said.
“2019 was a dry year, we dropped two years because of Covid and then last year we were basically washed out so this year was really the first year we’ve been able to have a full on proper two day show.
“Even Friday had a very good attendance of patrons going around the rings and side show alley.
“The actual numbers, well I couldn’t really tell you just yet but there were a good number of people there on both days and nights.”
He said there had also been a high number of entries in various sections and there were more in the dairy section than there had been for many, many years.
“The stud beef had a good day and for the horses, the three-ring ag show went well as usual,” he said
“It’s really just thanks to the committee and the very many volunteers that the show was able to go on at all.
“If you had to tally up all the hours that go into making that event, or even any show event really, it all adds up and our volunteers do it because they believe in creating the kind of show like the one we’ve just put on.
“This year we had a new ring announcer, Francis Green, it was the first time she’s been at Beaudesert and from the comments we’ve heard everyone thought she did a great job.
“With the change of date this year we had the Ag Ed on the Thursday and that really made us a three-day show.”
The show was packed with people enjoying snacks and meals from the dozens of food vendors offering everything from burgers and fries to
Mexican and Oriental cuisine, stuffed spuds, donuts, cakes and all manner of sweets.                                                                                                                                “We had a good number of utes participate in the Beaut Utes category,” he said.
“There were 32 of those, some of the drivers were quite young and
of course, we have our regular older drivers who have been attending for a number of years.
“We had two derbies and the main one had around 19 entries in it.”
