$25,000 raised for rural firies at Kalbar charity dog show
1 min read

More than $25,000 was raised for rural firies and SES at one of the largest regional dog shows in the state in Kalbar on Saturday.

Kalbar Show Society Secretary Joanna Gurd said they had 1871 entries into the charity show.

“Not all of the dogs turned up, many people used the entries as a way of donating to the cause, there were just under 600 physical entries that turned up,” Joanna said.

“Judges came from as far as New Zealand and all over Australia and they paid their own way.

“We even had someone enter their dog from the United Kingdom just so they could donate some money.”

Joanna said the charity dog show, in which every aspect of the event was donated, raised in excess of $25,000 and she expected money to keep trickling in throughout the week.

“It was a really hot day but the show ring was packed all day.

“We originally wanted 1000 entries but the number kept growing and growing.

“A number of people even entered their dogs that had passed away and were still registered with Dogs Queensland.”

The show itself was run by the Beaudesert Kennel Club and Dogs Queensland.

The winner of the day was  a Standard Poodle, Australian Champion Jurado Rocket Man for Wazky, owned by K Ritter and E Maitland.

Another competition saw a winner even before the show opened.

Breed clubs started competing with each other to see which breed could get the most entries.

About four days out from the competition it looked like another breed was going to win but after a big push, Rottweilers won with 140 entries.
