Scenic Rim man charged with historical child abuse

AN 83-year-old Scenic Rim man has been charged with historical child sexual assault charges.

The alleged offences relate to one child victim between 1966 and 1972 in the Townsville area.

He was arrested on Friday by detectives from Petrie Child Protection Investigation Unit.

He was charged with 16 counts of indecent treatment of a child under 14.

The man was remanded in custody and will appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
