North Tamborine Mountain
Amanda Hay
Amanda Hay opposes commercial ground water extraction on Tamborine Mountain for any thing other than for local use and co-ordinated the land valuation objection on the mountain which saw a maximum reduction of $300,000 on one property.
She worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea for a number of years before going on to work as a Senior Financial and Fraud Investigator with the Department of Human Services and as a Compliance Field Operative with the Australian Taxation Office.
Amanda says she is a self-funded candidate with no political backing and says local government should be free of political influence.
Nadia O’Carroll
Councillor Nadia O'Carroll was elected to the council in 2012 and was re-elected unopposed in 2016 and she also served as Deputy Mayor for a year.
A qualified accountant with a business degree, Nadia worked for Price Waterhouse, University of Technology Sydney and Queensland University.
Nadia has volunteered with a number of local organisations including, Tamborine Mountain Natural History Association, Tamborine Mountain Rural Fire Brigade and Tamborine Mountain Show Society.
Sally Williams
Dr Sally Williams is a retired doctor, university academic and the only openly party affililiated candidate.
Running for the Greens Party she said many councillors run as independant but they have “their own undeclared political positions and bias”.
She opposes the commercial water extraction on Tamborine Mountain and wants council to “declare a climate emergency.
“This campaign is not just to elect a councillor but to change a system.”

Jeff McConnell
Jeff McConnell was the SES Local Controller for the past eight years and says he has an extensive understanding of the issues Scenic Rim residents care about.
“I have been encouraged by the overwhelming requests and encouragement of many residents to use my leadership and management skills to further benefit the community,” he said in his announcement post.
“I have been an active member of the community for the past 13 years and will ensure that all my endeavours are directed at improving Division 2 and the Scenic Rim.”
Keer Moriarty
Keer Moriarty has owned a weekly news publication in Canungra for a decade, which she says made her become more involved with the community and volunteering.
“I became more and more involved in community work - volunteering and connecting with people to achieve a common goal is incredibly rewarding,” she said in a post.
She was also the first secretary of the Chamber of Commerce in Canungra and was on the steering committee for the Canungra & District Community Bank.
At the time Keer was also the Secretary for the Canungra Show Society.

Janine Healy
Local artist and former swimming champion, Janine Healy, has announced she will contest Division 3 (Canungra-Beechmont) in the Scenic Rim regional Council election on Saturday, March 28.
Janine says she has a no-nonsense approach and an ability to bring people together to create better outcomes.
“I am a hard worker, entirely familiar with working long hours and I am driven to achieve results, when faced with a difficult issue.”

Virginia West
Councillor Virginia West has served on the Scenic Rim Regional Council since its inception making her the longest-serving councillor.
Initially elected in 2008, she was re-elected in both 2012 and 2016, serving as Deputy Mayor for four years.
Before she was elected to the Beaudesert Shire Council in 2004, Virginia was a nurse and worked for a medical company.
Virginia is the President of the Canungra Local Ambulance Committee and is on the board of Tamborine Mountain College and the Beaudesert Hospital Community Advisory Committee.

Michael Enright
Councillor Michael Enright has just finished his first term in council and also chairs Council's Corporate and Community Services Committee.
An active member of Beaudesert for the past 30 years, Michael was on the Beaudesert Junior Chamber of Commerce and President of the Beaudesert Chamber of Commerce.
With qualifications in business management and training he has worked for 40 years in businesses in the district.
Jennifer Sanders
Jennifer Sanders was the elected member for Division 4 for the 2012 to 2016 term.
I am enthusiastic, interested and energetic and I am applying to become your community representative on Council. I have studied for over 12 years to gain the necessary qualifications.
On her website it reads: “Jennifer adds value due to her in-depth knowledge of management and financial control in small business and over a decade of experience in superannuation roles.”
Among the list of qualifications she says she specialises in, town planning, local government policy and procedure, not for profit boards and community health and welfare.

Marshall Chalk
Grazier, former champion footballer and father of three, Marshall Chalk has launched his campaign for Division 5 in the forthcoming Scenic Rim Local Government election.
The 38-year-old, fourth generation farmer from Carney’s Creek says he offers voters a more youthful voice in Council.
“I’ve lived in this district all my life except when I was away playing football,” Marshall said.

Julie de Visser
Julie de Visser says she has spent most of her career working with rural business owners and runs a business specialising in consulting and marketing.
Julie, among volunteering as a rural firefighter, has been Secretary of Regional Development Australia Ipswich & West Moreton Inc and a committee member on ARTC Inland Rail.
“I have had extensive experience working and negotiating with all three levels of Government to achieve positive outcomes for the wider community,” Julie says on her website.
Experience she gained as President of the Queensland Horse Council working with local and state government to help make legislative changes.

Caz Osborne
Caz Osborne has put herself in the ring to run for Councillor in Division 5 in the upcoming local government elections on Saturday, March 28.
She says she wants to be part of the team that creates a better and more sustainable future for the region.
Caz said after working on special projects with the Brisbane City Council for more than four years she brings a wealth of experience to the role.
She has also been involved with the local community as president of Scouts, CWA treasurer, Destination Scenic Rim membership officer and with the hydrotherapy pool on the committee.

Duncan McInnes
Duncan McInnes will again recontest his Division 6 seat in the upcoming local government elections.
Fighting for his third term, Duncan said he believed he had done a good job for his district.
He said his experience in council plus his long experience in the dairy industry with his brothers in Harrisville and being on related boards has given him the ability to handle competing interests well.
“I still have the same passion that I did when I began to move the region forward,” he said.
“Drought is our biggest problem and it has had a big effect on a myriad of people. But it will pass.

Mayor
John Brent
Inaugural Mayor of the Scenic Rim Regional Council, John Brent, announced he would run again for the position.
While getting the second highest amount of votes at the 2016 election, runner up to former Deputy Mayor, Dave Cockburn, John lost his seat to Greg Christensen after preferences.
John said he was running again to get the Scenic Rim “back on track” and reconnect with the people.
Greg Christensen
Scenic Rim Mayor, Greg Christensen, has announced plans to seek a second term.
In a media release on Tuesday, Cr Christensen said he believed his track record demonstrated that he offered … “the real leadership, vision and strength to continue to lead this council to secure a strong future.
“For our region to reach its full potential we need well-informed strategic thinking, clear vision and strong leadership to deliver sustainability and confidence across our entire area.

Tom Sharp
Beechmont resident, Tom Sharp, will stand as a candidate for Mayor of the Scenic Rim in the forthcoming local government election.
In making the announcement, Mr Sharp said he was responding to requests from people and organisations across the region.
“They’ve indicated they are desperate to see a change in a number of aspects, which currently form the governance of this Council."
Dr Chris Summers
Dr Chris Summers has announced plans to stand as a candidate for Mayor of the Scenic Rim Regional Council at the forthcoming local government election.
Chris is a former Guidance Officer who holds a Doctorate in education and lives at Blantyre with his wife Judy.
“I retired from my 20 year role with Education Queensland last year, the draft of the book I’ve been writing about Shakespeare’s sonnets is now with the publishers and so I feel I have the time to devote to taking on the important role as Mayor of the Scenic Rim, if I am elected,” Chris says.
