Scenic Rim election meet the candidates night announced
1 min read

Voters are offered an opportunity to hear and compare the policies and priorities of candidates for Mayor and Divisions 5 and Councillor Duncan McInnes for Division 6 of the Scenic Rim at a Meet the Candidates evening in Boonah, this month.

The Boonah District Chamber of Commerce will host an evening at the Cultural Centre on Wednesday, March 18.

“The regional council election is only weeks away now,”said Chamber President, Bruce Trevena, “and this event will give electors a chance to find out what the candidates have to offer our region.”

He added that as the Chamber was a strictly apolitical organisation, the decision was made to invite a non-member to MC the event.

“Wilson Neuendorf has kindly taken up that invitation,” Bruce said.

“Wilson has experience in local government as a former Councillor and in MCing events, and is a highly regarded member of our community.”

Bruce also anticipates that the evening will allow candidates to reveal what they would bring to the council, and give some detail on how they would handle the priority issues.

“Each candidate will be given three minutes to address the audience and this will be followed by question time.

“We won’t be taking questions from the floor.

“All the questions will be drawn from a sampling of those placed in the box, which will be available from 6.00 to 6.30pm in the foyer of the Cultural Centre on the night.

“Our aim is not to curtail the questioning, but rather to give each candidate a chance to address the issues which are of foremost concern to the voters in the Divisions.”

Question time will be followed by a chance for each candidates to sum up their campaign.

“Everyone is invited to join us on the night,” Bruce said. “And we sincerely hope that many will take up this invitation as the Chamber wants to ensure that our area has the best candidates representing it.”
