Push for public inquiry into bushfires
1 min read

A call for a public inquiry into the recent and current bushfires will be made in the parliamentary committee for Innovation, Tourism and Environment.

The move will be made by local member, Jon Krause, a member of the committee, who said it is exactly what they should be investigating.

“At the next possible opportunity, I will move in that Committee for a public inquiry into the bushfires,” he said.

“People are on tenterhooks in my electorate. Rural firies are exhausted. Graziers are devastated by crop losses. People have lost their homes.”

“They all deserve the right to be heard and to have all of their concerns aired and discussed.”

Mr Krause said more and more people were coming to him with concerns about bushfire risk management and fire management.

“This is not the time for an in-house inquiry by the Labor Government. This is not the time for cover-ups. We need to let people on the ground have their say and put all of their concerns on the record.”

“We need to hear from all parties in the community about the good, the bad and the gaps in fire management, including management of state land and National Parks.”

“That is how we will improve future fire practices and management – not through hiding behind closed doors inquiries lacking in public input.”
