Scene Rim Mayor declared, council to be sworn in
1 min read

BEECHMONT resident, Tom Sharp, was officially declared Mayor of the Scenic Rim on Easter Sunday.

The announcement from the Queensland Electoral Commission came 15 days after the poll, following the distribution of preferences.

The only surprise in the declaration was that more than 15 percent of the enrolled voters failed to vote for a mayoral candidate, which was four times the number of informal votes.

Mr Sharp won 56.51 percent of the vote after preferences were allocated while Deputy Mayor Jeff McConnell received 43.49 percent.

The tight contest in Division 5 was resolved just before Easter with sitting Councillor Marshall Chalk declared the winner. After the last of the postal votes were counted, Cr Chalk won the poll by 88 votes from opponent, Leanne Bartrim.

Division 6 was also declared after the preferences were distributed with sitting Councillor Duncan McInnes taking the win with 62.16 percent of the vote.

The declarations mean the make-up of the new Council, which is expected to be sworn in this week, will be:

• Mayor Tom Sharp

• Councillor Division 1 - Amanda Hay

• Councillor Division 2 - Kerri-Marie Cryer

• Councillor Division 3 - Stephen Moriarty

• Councillor Division 4 - Jennifer Sanders

• Councillor Division 5 - Marshall Chalk

• Councillor Division 6 - Duncan McInnes
