Protests planned for Remondis consultation

More clashes are likely as protesters plan to disrupt a pop-up information booth for Remondis at Redbank Plains on Thursday.

The waste company is pushing ahead with a series of information sessions at Ipswich shopping centres in an attempt to convince the community of the benefits of its unpopular energy from waste incinerator proposal for Swanbank.

At the first information session at Riverlink Shopping Centre on July 30 political activist Bill Heck was arrested for protesting near the pop-up Remondis booth and was carried out of the centre by force by four police officers after a complaint was made from the public.

He was issued two infringement notices for not moving along and obstructing police.

The Greens candidate for Blair Danielle Mutton this week said she and the Ipswich Lockyer Greens would join a community protest against the incinerator proposal at Remondis’ next community consultation event at Redbank Plains.
