
The Great Western Sydney Giants claimed a two goal victory over the Richmond Tigers at the Giants Stadium in Sydney on Friday night … and Ruby Thomson from Boonah watched every moment of the hard-fought game.
And at half time, 10-year-old Ruby watched her pre-recorded interview with Channel 7 commentator Hamish McLachlan on the stadium’s big screen.
In pre-Covid times, Ruby and her family would have been in the VIP seats at the stadium.
“Our daughter, Ruby, won a national NAB AFL Auskicker at Home competition,” explains her dad, Charlie.
“Ruby had to submit a video showing her passion for football and how she has been developing her AFL skills at home.
“And she was chosen as the winner.”
Ruby currently plays for the Ipswich Eagles Football Club.
“Her passion for the game was obvious on the video she sent in and during her interview with Hamish McLachlan,” Charlie said.
“Ruby hopes to one day play for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian rules football competition, women’s competition.”
