Scenic Rim aged care facilities restricted in Metro South lockdown
1 min read

Restrictions were placed on aged care facilities in the Metro South health district and parts of West Moreton after two people were found to have been infected with the virus for eight days.

Queensland’s Chief Medical Officer, Jeanette Young, said in a press conference she requested aged care facilities in areas which include parts of east Scenic Rim to restrict access to visitors.

In the Metro South health district, 6800 tests were conducted yesterday after the news of the infected duo broke.

This is four times the usual amount of tests conducted in a usual day.

The increased testing also led to long delays with reports of wait times for a test ballooning to six hours.

A total of 94 aged care facilities in the district were locked down until the government could make sure there was no risk from this outbreak.

Police are certain they have identified all people who attended the party the now infamous duo attended in Melbourne.

Dr Young said they were confident they had identified all of the people related to the two, who had travelled across the border from Victoria and falsified their border entry forms.

The two women are now the focus of a criminal investigation.

Dr Young stressed that aged care facilities had done a fantastic job from day one.

But she had also asked aged care facilities in Metro South to limit visitors “to continue to protect the most vulnerable in our community”.

“There’s absolutely nothing at this time suggesting either of these two individuals have visited any aged care facility,” Dr Young said.

“If we act really fast now, we can stop this spreading further.”

Areas affected include Ipswich postcodes of 4305, Beaudesert and all the way down to Palen Creek.
