COUNCIL OWNED or managed playgrounds throughout the Scenic Rim will be closed and electric barbecues switched off at 5.00pm on Thursday.

All camping grounds controlled by Council will also be closed at the same time.

The playground and electric barbeque lock-outs are in response to the COVID-19 crisis and will be undertaken in the following localities on the western side of the Scenic Rim (Fassifern)

ARATULA: Moffatt Memorial Park

BOONAH: Bicentennial Park; Tiny Tots Park at the southern end of High Street; Coronation Park; Springleigh Park; Toby Slatter Park.

HARRISVILLE: Harrisville Memorial Park; Lions Rotary Park.

KALBAR: Kalbar Civic Centre Park; JEC Pennell Park.

MT ALFORD: Bowman Park.

PEAK CROSSING: Peak Mountain View Park.

ROADVALE: Roadvale Park.

WARRILL VIEW: Lions Park.

Council controlled campgrounds across the Scenic Rim which will be closed are:

11. THE CLOSURES WERE ANNOUNCED the day before Queensland Education made the decision to make the last week of the school term student-free days.
12. Schools will remain open until the end of term on April 3, to allow the children of essential workers to remain at school and teachers to prepare to move to remote learning from home.
13. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said while the advice from the Chief Health Officers was that schools could remain open, they need to start preparing for a potential closure in the coming weeks.
14. “This will not be a normal school break,” the Premier said.
15. “It is vital that parents take responsibility for their children during this time.
16. “Every Queenslander needs to do their part to limit the spread of coronavirus.”
17. The Premier said school would still be open for the children of workers who are required in their workplace.
18. “This is an unprecedented time in our history.
19. “We will be asking frontline workers to go above and beyond their normal work situations to help us get through this. That’s not only frontline health professionals and police but people who undertake important work in our supply chain like stacking shelves in supermarkets.
20. “School will still be open for the children of these workers.”
21. Education Minister Grace Grace said teachers, teacher aides and staff would use the reduced attendance at schools to prepare for a potential move to students learning from home next term.
