New playgrounds, facelifts and upgrades to community buildings, restoration of pioneer grave stones and works at the landfill and transfer stations all figured in a raft of local projects given the tick by Queensland Local Government Minister, Stirling Hinchliffe today.

The projects will be funded through a $1.73 million Covid Works for Queensland grant.

On the list are:

•  A radio frequency identification (RFID) control system will be installed at libraries across the Scenic Rim. This will include tagging all books and installing exit control security gates, and providing self-service kiosks.

•  The painting of the interior and exterior of the Kooralbyn Community Centre.

•  Solar tubing and a safety handrail will be installed at the Moriarty Park Community Centre in Canungra.

•  New playgrounds at Tiny Tots Park in Boonah and in the Tamborine Memorial Park.

•  The replacing of the roof on the Tamborine Village Old School.

•  The Fassifern Reserve pioneer gravesites will be restored.

•  Bollards will be installed at the Fassifern Reserve road side rest area and free camping facility.

•  Electricity lines and other services will be buried deeper in the DJ Smith Memorial Park, Canungra to enable future installation of turf irrigation.

•  CCTV, new lighting and litter control infrastructure at the Central landfill at Bromelton.

•  A retaining wall will be constructed at the Tamborine Mountain transfer station.

•  Repairs will be made to the Canungra transfer station bay structure.

The list of projects was developed by Scenic Rim regional Council officers.
