Bombers Old Boys connect with community
1 min read

THE Fassifern Bombers Old Boys Day at Harrisville on Sunday is much more than a chance to catch up with former mates and long-time club supporters.

It’s an opportunity to build on the community focus encouraged by some of the region’s most loyal sports enthusiasts.

Bombers club president Paul Roderick is pleased to see the annual event going ahead on Sunday afternoon when three matches will be played at Hayes Oval.

“It’s really about coming back to the club to have a look and meet up with some old mates,” Roderick said.

“The theme of the day for us is about reconnecting.

“All Old Boys are invited but the focus of the day is to get ex-players back. If they come to one game of the year, this is the one we’d like them to come to.’’

Roderick said support from Ipswich club Norths strengthened the popular get-together.

He also praised those on the active Old Boys committee for the work they do around the Fassifern region.

That includes sponsoring a variety of other sporting teams in their endeavours - like a women’s softball team entering this year’s masters’ competition.

“Their main linkage is with the footy club – they are ex-players or supporters or there’s some older guys that may not have played for Fassifern but they certainly played in Boonah or Harrisville back in the day,” he said.

Sunday’s footy program kicks off at noon with the Bombers’ C-Grade side taking on Brisbane Valley.

The Fassifern Reserve and A-Grade teams play Norths in the matches that follow.

The Bombers are eager to regain some winning form after some tough losses in recent weeks.
