High School girl’s team off to state finals
1 min read

Queensland Cricket is sponsoring a team of young women from Boonah State High School to represent the southern part of the state in Townsville.

Teachers Yvette Mcallister and Katherine Chisholm will take the students up to the competition on November 13 where they will play the team representing the north of the state.

Yvette said almost the entire state had been whittled down to two team.

“Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich, Bundaberg, Rockhampton, they've competes and from those competitions they went on to another three rounds of competitions and the girls are the winners out of all that.”

“So they've had to win the district game, the regional game and then a southern Queensland game to get to this point.

She said the team’s success was down to a number of factors.

“They're all very skilled because of the local vigoro competition, most of them are vigoro players as well and that really helps them with their fielding and their hand eye coordination.

“We've got a good program here [at school], we've got teachers that have played vigoro and cricket that are able to coach them.

“And they are very motivated young ladies and they achieve very highly across the board.”
