Maintaining the legend - Maroon Single Wicket
1 min read

The annual Maroon Single Wicket again attracted an enthusiastic crowd of locals and visitors including the extended family of a past Principal.

“It was yet again another great day to relax and share in the strong community spirit at Maroon,” said current Principal, Shaan Eldridge.

“Even though our community has been affected by the bushfires, with many of our members involved in fighting them, they still rallied and made the day very successful.”

One of the highlights was the attendance of Bruce and John Bond and their families.

“Bruce and John, are the brothers of former Principal Arthur Bond. They joined us and brought their children and grandchildren,” Shaan said.

“John and Bruce both played in the 1983 Single Wicket competition and on Sunday, their grandchildren, Julian Bond and Meagan Findlay were on the winner’s list.”

The Single Wicket is run as a school fundraiser but every year it is embraced as an all-of-community event.

“We’re so thankful that the players, organisers and sponsors continue to support us. The aim of the day is to raise funds for the school but just as importantly, it is a social occasion where old friends meet up and new friends are made,” Shaan said.

On the winner’s list this year were:

• A Grade - Patrick Munnings,

• B Grade - Julian Bond,

• C Grade Boys - Harrison Weale, Runner Up Roly Wilson,

• C Grade Girls - Meagan Findlay; and

• Junior Girl - Bella Forde.
