Council’s decision to close The Head Road to repair damage caused by the 2019 bushfires has been overturned as the only practical alternate route is closed due to the Queensland – NSW border lockdown.

The closure of The Head Road to undertake a four month project for road and guardrail repairs was announced by Mayor Greg Christensen earlier this month.

The works on the steep upper section of The Head Road near the boundary of Scenic Rim and the Southern Downs were due to begin this week.

However, on Friday, Cr Christensen said the closure would not go ahead as planned.
